I am unable to claim by packages and weight
- Check if the vessel lock has been removed, you will not be able to claim goods with the lock in place.
- Your badge may need to be enabled to claim by packages and weight. Please contact the CNS Help Desk to action this.
How do I split a UCN?

How do I add to an existing amalgamation?
- You may only add to existing amalgamations with UCNs on the same Bill of Lading. On screen 54 enter the USI, then complete the details under option 3 Wharf Bulk Amalgamation. Press return, input ‘A’ in the action field against the UCNs you wish to add and enter.
Vessel has arrived but auto-arrival has not worked
- A vessel may have arrived at the terminal but the CNS system will not mark it as arrived until the vessel starts working. The shipping line has the option to manually arrive the vessel.
Vessel is marked as arrived but my entry is still held
- You have the option to manually arrive your entry in the CHIEF system with the ANGA screen.
My entry is cleared but I do not have a gate pass
- Check you have cleared the required number of packages. The groupage levels on screen 71 must add up to the total number of packages on screen 52.
- Check there is not a further groupage to be cleared. If this has been manifested to the control of your shipping line you may not be able to view this.
- Check if there is a HMRC hold. A gate pass will be issued upon the release of the hold.
I have not received a clearance print
- If the entry has cleared input a B in the action field on screen 71 and enter. This will generate a duplicate clearance advice.
How do I overland a container?
- Call up the container on screen 52. Input CO (confirm overland) in the action field and enter.
How do I shortland a container?
- Call up the container on screen 52 and enter Z in the action field. This freezes the record and it will archive off the CNS system in approximately 30 days. Please click here for a detailed guide.
What does the scheme number mean?
